I was recently put in charge for the cheese selection at a dinner party...and so I finally had the opportunity to try out this place. (I had walked by many times before, but was never in need of cheese :-)
Upon entering the store, I was greeted by a poster announcing an upcoming show on the BBC where Cheeses had partnered up with Nigel Slater...oh dear, I always fall asleep when watching his cooking shows!
Anyway, the woman behind the counter was nice and I kind of put her in charge of creating a selection of cheeses for me. I have to admit, I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to cheeses, but this is exactly why I came to a specialty store.
The store itself is very cute. Tiny and narrow, but just being in there makes you want to buy all sorts of things. And they offer other food items as well, such as chutneys, biscuits & digestives and even some sausages.
Overall, I was very happy with my shopping experience at Cheeses, although I would've liked it even better if they offered to taste some cheeses. (Although I assume that they wouldn't have refused if I had asked them.)
Another tip for prospective shoppers: I bought some fancy crackers/digestives, which - to be honest - I found way too expensive. I suggest you stop by at nearby W Martyn to stock up on crackers and chutneys at a much more affordable price.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sam S.Southampton, Birleşik Krallık0120 Eyl 2019
This is the worst company I've ever dealt with!!!!
I ordered my cheese online three weeks ago and it is still not delivered. No one answers emails, the phone just rings and no one gets back to you.
I've emailed at least 15 times mainly just asking for any reply and phoned about twenty five times. At this stage i presume they've just taken my money.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE BUY ANYTHING OFF THIS COMPANY!!!!
They will take your money, refuse to answer any communication and not send the food.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Milly M.Los Angeles, ABD84326571 Haz 2011
As I write from my warm and lovely home in Los Angeles, I can not tell you how much I covet and miss this dear, dear cheese shop!
I have to thank my wonderful epicurean aunt and uncle, denizens of London, for talking me out of walking up the road to La Fromagerie (mere steps away from their Highburry home) to journey up to this amazing purveyor of cheese and complimentary products.
I wish that I could tell you what to try- but I can't. That is contingent on what is ready that season and who you are having over. I can tell you that you can find any and every cheese from Europe and most of the UK here, including smaller home farm dairies. I like that they carry alternates to the name brand, blue chip cheeses. The staff is smart and supportive, making solid suggestions based upon your needs- whether it be a dinner party, or a wine tasting or just plain curiosity. Oh, and there are no affected airs here, which makes it all the more fun to sample ad shop!
In addition to a superior offering of cheeses, they have a wonderful selection of accouterments- knives, cutting boards and plates, as well as an inspired stock of foods that compliment their stock. There are delicious chocolates, quirky biscuits and crackers and oh... to die for handmade artisanal panettone!
What sets this shop apart from La Fromagerie, is it that at the heart and soul of Cheeses are an owner and staff that share their passion without any pretensions. Viva Cheeses!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Sinan O.Londra, Birleşik Krallık1421820721 Ara 2008İlk Yorum Yapan
I am a huge lover of cheese, I have withdrawals of it sometimes, honestly I absolutely love the stuff. When I'm staying with the parents, my mum knows how to entice me and that's by stocking the fridge with some weird wacky tasty cheeses, I know, I must sound like a complete freak by being enticed by cheese as if I were a mouse or something, but what can I do!
Cheese in Muswell Hill has that traditional touch, and they have a brilliant selection to choose from. Any type of cheese that you are looking for, I would be surprised if the don't have it here, then again, I don't know if they sell Halloumi, but I would only get that from the local Greek or Turkish shops.
The service is very pleasant and I just love the smell in here. They don't just sell cheees though, I went there yesterday to perhaps get something for Christmas and they have some unique chocolates and other wacky things, like figs balls and chutney biscuits. They are always introducing new things and keep festive to whatever time of year it is. I love this shop, I don't know of many Cheese shops in London, but don't really care to find out of any more because this one has it all. 10 out of 10.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype Kullanıcısı (Jonbo…)Londra, Birleşik Krallık294019 Nis 2008
An astounding selection of cheeses, olives and cheese paraphernalia can be found in this shop and is completely unrivalled in the area. Serving the local community for over 30 years this is a family run business where you can have a really good cheese natter whether you know your stuff or are just curious about what is on offer. Personal favourites of mine are the Montgommory Cheddar and the Bree which keep going back for time and time again. These are my reccomendations but have a good look round if you're in the area and don't be shy and you should leave with a smile on your face.

You can smell it from some distance: a very small but first class local cheese shop, with very helpful staff who will always let you have a taste before you buy. Not cheap but a good selection and great quality. Try the Devon Oke. And the Vacherin.
