I was born here! Not-too-many moons ago Daddy B brought Mummy B here through the thickest blanket of snow in years to deliver Katie B. It was a very quick labour, as my dad says: I've never had a lot of patience!
Anyway, a few years ago I had to undergo quite a scary surgery on my throat and for some reason I sought comfort in the fact I was referred to St George's Hospital for the big op.
I had an amazing surgeon, Mr Williamson, some brilliant (and one gorgeous) student interns and the most fantastic, hard-working and comforting nurses EVER on the wonderfully named Florence Nightingale ward.
I was in for three days and had to share my ward with all men, not nice, but they thoughtfully put me by the window and kept my curtain closed so I could have my privacy. The ward was clean and although I really hated the food the nurses were usually happy to give me extra yoghurt to make up for it.
Mr Williamson was a fabulous surgeon and although I lost my voice for six weeks it eventually came back and everything worked out well (some may consider that length of silence from me a blessing anyway).
This hospital houses some amazing staff and the amount of crap the nurses have to endure daily and the hours they work in comparison to their pay is shameful. Especially when you look at how much other people are paid in jobs much less significant!
Thank you to the nurses on the Florence Nightingale ward for giving me comfort and looking after me so well during the most frightening time of my life.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Qype Kullanıcısı (NizPer…)Watford, Birleşik Krallık44518 Kas 2008
We were transferred from Surrey to this hospital and I got to see the children's and maternity units. The hospital was very understaffed, so there wasn't adequate attention given to any of the children by nursing staff. Some of them were very good though, very kind and caring but there was only so much they could do because of the number they had to care for.
The consultants were very friendly and accessive, they took their time in discussing everything with us and keeping us informed of anything. One consultant, I don't think I'm allowed to name her here, went beyond the call of duty for us.
The maternity ward left a lot to be desired. The toilets needed a good clean up.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype Kullanıcısı (maribe…)Londra, Birleşik Krallık1227 May 2011
This is a fantastic hospital at the heart of the local community. Almost all of the staff here really do care and want to help. No hospital is perfect, but I really think St George's does its best in difficult circumstances: funding cuts, increased patient numbers, etc. There are some world class consultants based at St George's too along with the very prestigious University of London campus on site, which seems to attract some of the best medical students.

I visited my son last Saturday, who was seen in A&E on the previous Wednesday with severe stomach pains. By Saturday, he had not been seen by another doctor and had had nothing to eat or drink and was starving. He was on a waiting list for a scan but with no information about how long the wait would be. My advice is: don't be ill at the weekend! There seems to be a severe shortage of doctors and many departments are closed.
