I love DGS. I've lived a few blocks away from DGS for a couple of years now and its very much a go-to spot for me. Everything on the menu is always delicious, I haven't yet tried anything I don't like - I've gone for dinner, happy hour, lunches, and brunches. They have a good happy hour and usually serve a delicious Barbera (among other things) with some yummy happy hour food. They have a back patio so when its nice you can sneak out back and not be on the main Connecticut drag. They're also good for lunch but that actually fills up quick so you want to make a reservation if you can.
DGS also has two different shops that sort of run out of their restaurant. Little Sesame is downstairs and serves delicious hummus platters (see my other review for LS). There is now a new breakfast pop-up, Sadie's. Sadie's serves coffee, tea, and breakfast sammies/bagels. It's only open from 7 am - 11 am. I've seen some reviews of people complaining about Sadie's but I actually like it, its next to my job so I might just be biased but its pretty convenient and quick. It's not meant to be a full on dining experience and its great for folks grabbing food and coffee on the way to work. I actually do so some ppl in the window sitting and eating but don't expect restaurant service its not that kind of situation.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 25 Ağu 2016
I ordered two comfort foods, the Matzo-ball soup and the Latkes, but they didn't "comfort" me and weren't the down home experience I was looking for. I get putting a new twist on other menu items, like burgers, sandwiches, and salads... but these two items were too fancy (upscale) for me. Maybe if the menu described them differently, my expectations might have been a bit different.
Also, the menu doesn't list "duck fat" as part of the matzo ball recipe, as the website does. If it did, I probably wouldn't have ordered it.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 1 Eki 2016
We came for happy hour on a Saturday (weekend HH ftw), and they go on the shortlist of best happy hours in town. DGS, Ghibellina, and Thally have got to be in a class unto themselves when it comes to best DC happy hours. One of the keys is that there are so many options available. They offer $5 bites, $7 cocktails, $4 beers, and some wines, so you are sure to find something you'll enjoy.
We happened to find LOTS of stuff to enjoy. The portions on the food are perfect for two to share, and 3 choices filled us up nicely. The brisket sliders are ridiculous and amazing, high-class sliders. We were on a slider high after those and ordered the fried chicken sliders, which are not quite as amazing as the brisket but still very good. Lastly we had to try the latke poutine les canadiens, a fun Jewish deli take on the old classic poutine. I love seeing them get creative and offer something you won't find elsewhere, and they nail it. Fried potato covered in gravy and cheese - what's not to love?
For drinks, my favorite was a cocktail called the mensch, which has bourbon with bitters and blood orange. A slightly orangier version of an old-fashioned, so if you like those, you will like this. I sure did.
This is a huge spot with chill atmosphere that feels very clean and welcoming. I cannot speak to the regular dinner/lunch experience, but with happy hour this good, they are a must-visit.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 28 Şub 2016
An upscale twist on classic Eastern European Jewish dishes and the classic Jewish deli. Nice location in DuPont and cute decor with pictures on the back of baking sheets. Decent, fresh food but it's expensive. The service at first was very disappointing but it got better towards the end of the meal. I was annoyed they had run out of two of the three dishes( the roasted cod and brisket) we ordered and the waitress failed to tell us this until after we ordered. And is was only 6:45pm so seems like poor planning.
It's $17 for a big family bowl of Matzah Ball soup or $7 for a small bowl which is extremely pricey. Also the menu salads were small. The tempeh Reuben was very dry however I appreciate that they have several vegetarian options on the menu. The pan seared salmon was delicious and a very nice sizes portion. The chicken Schnitzel was different than expected as it was pretty thick and was pink inside although crispy on the outside. We thought it was raw but turns out it's dark meal they brine which turns it pink. The management kindly offered to bring something else that would be preferred so that was really good service by the manager.
Overall it was an average meal for the price.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Alexander L.Washington, DC, ABD4615315423 Eki 2017
I waited way too long to come here. I grabbed lunch with a friend of mine last week at DGS - my first time there even though I've been working in the neighborhood for over two years. I got the corned beef reuben. It was delicious - maybe the best reuben I've ever had. It came with a pickle that was a little too peppery. The sandwich alone was enough food that I had half at lunch, then half later on. So I can't remember what it cost, but it was definitely worth the price since I got a meal and a half out of one sandwich. My friend got the falafel plate - I don't love falafel but it looked really good.
Service was fine - the hostess wasn't extremely friendly, but our waitress was nice. I definitely plan to come back - and not waiting another two years before doing so!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 12 Ağu 2017
Although somewhat incongruously located next to several of DuPont's nightclubs, DGS is a delightful modern offering with a light Jewish flavor.
We were there for brunch, and were impressed with the flavors (if not the small portions) of the latke salmon Benedict and the challah French toast. Recommended!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 16 Oca 2016
An okay deli. Nothing out of this world, but sometimes that's okay. Some good lunch specials though I do prefer fries rather than cole slaw as a side to many of the lunch sandwiches.
Wasn't terribly impressed by the Gyro I ordered. It was very watery and the chicken pieces in it tasted like they've been cooked in butter/lard/grease, which I didn't like at all. Maybe it was an off day?
Kind of loud for a lunch meeting. Probably more of a place to meet friends.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 18 Haz 2017
Service was good and in my opinion that was the best thing. Hubby would give this 4 stars and I would give it 1, so they end up with a 2 as too many bad things! Ok for the good: their pastrami sandwich was good and lean, although I'd say a but pricy and you pay extra for sides! Now for the not do good, the beef brisket hash. Waiter recommended it and I shouldn't have listened! Kimchi instead of onions, seriously?!? Who does that?!? Also came in a red "sauce" not sure what that was about. Oh and the eggs, well not completely cooked and the whites were still runny. This isn't a Jewish deli and you're better off going to Bethesda Bagels!!

This is a great place to get matsoball soup. I would say if your not too hungry you could get away with just the soup for lunch. I usually get the Andrea's sandwich which is great because it's like the Ruben without the sauerkraut. Interior exposed brick is nice, and the service is excellent. I also like the fact that they give you a bottle of water so you don't have to ask for refills.
